About the position

Carr Winery, a boutique winery located in downtown Santa Barbara, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Hospitality Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the tasting room and enhance the guest experience. This full-time position requires a commitment of five days a week, including weekends and evenings as needed. The ideal candidate will possess a friendly and professional demeanor, a passion for wine, and a strong customer service orientation. The Hospitality Manager will play a crucial role in managing the tasting room staff, ensuring that guests receive exceptional service while enjoying the winery's offerings. In this role, the Hospitality Manager will be responsible for the operational supervision of the tasting room, which includes creating and managing staff schedules, training new employees, and leading staff meetings. The manager will work closely with the owners, marketing coordinator, and events coordinator to ensure that the tasting room is well-represented and that all operations run smoothly. This includes managing inventory, assisting with shipping logistics, and creating tasting lists and price sheets. The Hospitality Manager will also be tasked with resolving guest concerns and complaints, ensuring that all interactions are handled with professionalism and courtesy. The position requires a strong understanding of the wine industry, with a minimum of two years of experience in a winery or restaurant/hospitality setting. The candidate should be wine savvy, possess excellent hospitality and sales skills, and have a proven ability to maintain effective relationships within a team-oriented environment. The role demands flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the business, as well as the physical ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage staff schedule
  • Train new employees and educate staff
  • Organize and lead tasting room staff meetings
  • Give direction to staff and delegate responsibility as needed
  • Ensure tasting room product and tasting room are well represented at all times including signage, staff and cleanliness
  • Work with Tasting Room staff to manage the guest experience ensuring a successful Tasting Room workflow and operation
  • Work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including evening and weekend shifts
  • Resolve guest concerns/complaints using good judgment and professionalism and courtesy
  • Communicate problems or issues with staff members or tasting room facility to owners
  • Answer and manage winery emails
  • Manage inventory
  • Assist with shipping logistics
  • Create and manage tasting lists and price sheets
  • Assist in planning and coordination of tasting room events and large group visits
  • Represent winery at outside functions as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years winery or restaurant/hospitality experience
  • Wine savvy with a passion for fine wine, sales, and all other aspects of the wine industry
  • Excellent hospitality, sales, and organizational skills
  • Experience in wine sales (2 years minimum preferred)
  • Strong proficiency using Mac Computers including MS Word and Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and POS System
  • Professional, creative, friendly, fun, and outgoing
  • Good written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Highly customer service oriented
  • Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all levels of employees in a team-oriented environment
  • Must be available and willing to work evenings and weekends, able to lift and move 50 lbs and stand on one's feet for extended periods of time
