About the position

Directs coordinates, and administers the Nutrition and Food Services, Housekeeping and Linen services in accordance with Federal and State regulations governing Nursing Home facilities. Provides leadership and a commitment to residents, families and co-workers following the Avera Service Standards and Mission. Acts as a trainer for new employees assigned to these areas.

Responsibilities

  • Performs an initial assessment of all residents obtaining general and dietary information to individualize their care plan.
  • Monitors, with Registered Dietitian, resident weight variances, identifies any cause and makes adjustments to dietary plan to maintain optimal nutritional health.
  • Helps implement all regular and therapeutic diets with consultation of Registered Dietitian.
  • Develops & implements new seasonal menus in collaboration with dietitian.
  • Maintains open communication with residents and responds appropriately to residents' concerns and requests.
  • Establishes and updates department policies and procedures annually in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Assists with the preparation of the department budgets for review.
  • Participates in operational plan and capital budget planning.
  • Places food and supply orders through contracted vendors to maintain adequate inventory.
  • Inspects storage rooms, freezers, refrigerators, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep, outdates, and supply control.
  • Participates in annual State survey.
  • Reviews and develops a plan of correction for area of responsibility deficiencies noted during survey inspections.
  • Meets with staff on a regularly scheduled basis, and solicits advice from inter-department supervisors concerning the operation of the department.
  • Ensures that staff follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies at all times.
  • Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility's established policies and procedures.
  • Makes daily rounds to assure that staff are performing duties and to assure that appropriate procedures are being rendered to meet the needs of the facility.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements

  • High School or GED Equivalent
  • Drivers License - Licensing Board Upon Hire
  • Certified Dietary Manager - Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals Upon Hire
