About the position

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced host and producer for its daily tech podcast, Tech News Briefing, and its companion show, TNB Tech Minute. This role involves delivering essential tech news to a global audience through interviews and news segments, requiring strong editorial judgment, production skills, and a passion for storytelling. The ideal candidate will have a journalism background, particularly in tech and business reporting, and will be responsible for producing high-quality audio content under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Host and produce a daily tech news podcast, managing all tasks involved in writing, recording, and mixing the show.
  • Host, produce, and mix a daily tech news headlines show, TNB Tech Minute.
  • React quickly to breaking news, suggesting and securing guest interviews on deadline.
  • Write concise news items that convey essential story aspects in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Create SEO-friendly headlines, show descriptions, and social media content to attract new audiences.
  • Collaborate with editors, producers, and the social media team to promote the podcast and WSJ.
  • Interview WSJ reporters and external sources, asking insightful questions in a conversational manner.
  • Propose interviews and episode ideas proactively, ensuring a consistent pipeline of strong interview opportunities.
  • Book newsmakers and industry leaders, thoroughly researching and preparing for interviews.
  • Pitch and execute special series and narrative-style episodes beyond the daily show.
  • Ensure all content meets high production values and adheres to WSJ journalistic standards.
  • Meet tight deadlines in a changing news environment and adapt to news events as needed.
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors to develop story ideas and episodes.
  • Conduct live interviews that extend the brand beyond the podcast.
  • Manage multiple projects in various stages of development and production.
  • Work late hours and weekends as news developments may require.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional journalism experience, particularly in business and/or tech news.
  • 3+ years of experience in audio production, especially in daily audio news or similar formats.
  • Strong editorial judgment and broad knowledge of current events, business, technology, and economics.
  • Experience in researching, scripting, and conducting engaging interviews.
  • Ability to communicate with and book guests, with a robust contact list of newsmakers and industry executives.
  • Expertise in delivering accurate scripts and reporting that meet WSJ standards.
  • Proficiency in audio editing software such as Descript, Pro Tools, or Audition.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and react to breaking news swiftly.
  • Experience working in multiple audio formats and styles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in field recording is a plus.
