About the position

The Westin Portland Harborview is seeking a part-time Host for its 15th-floor lounge. The role involves ensuring prompt recognition and seating of guests, assisting servers in providing excellent service, and helping with payment collection. The position requires availability to work every weekend and holidays, emphasizing a friendly and service-oriented approach to guest interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Aimbridge Hospitality standards as required by scheduling.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the proper uniform and nametag when working.
  • Comply at all times with Aimbridge Hospitality standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all times.
  • Comply with certification requirements for the position, including Food Handlers and Alcohol Awareness.
  • Be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers, and other employees.
  • Greet and seat guests at appropriate tables in a timely manner.
  • Assist in providing a pleasant dining experience for guests.
  • Assist cashier in collecting money or credit cards from guests and servers as needed.
  • Prepare cashier report at the end of the shift.
  • Pay out servers' and service attendants' tips if appropriate.
  • Take reservations for outlets properly.
  • Ensure quality control of menus regarding cleanliness and appearance.
  • Perform opening and closing duties according to established side work checklist.
  • Answer the telephone according to standards.
  • Have complete knowledge of standards of service for receiving a room service order.
  • Have thorough knowledge of menus and current specials in all applicable departments.
  • Assist servers and cashiers in servicing guests as needed.
  • Understand state liquor laws.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
  • Attend meetings/training as required by management.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and/or experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • Ability to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Ability to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Show initiative in job performance, anticipating needs before they arise.
  • Meet deadlines routinely.
  • Effectively handle problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving issues as necessary.
  • Ability to assimilate complex information from disparate sources and adjust to meet specific needs.
  • Effective listening skills to understand and clarify concerns raised by co-workers and guests.
  • Ability to work with financial information and basic arithmetic functions.
