About the position

The Host/Hostess at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club is responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere for members and guests at Thomas Grille & Bar. This role is crucial for ensuring a positive dining experience by managing seating arrangements, answering phone calls, and taking reservations. The Host/Hostess serves as the first and last point of contact for guests, making their role vital to the restaurant's success.

Responsibilities

• Promptly and warmly greets and directs guests to their tables based on availability or desired seating arrangements.
• Helps create an overall enjoyable dining experience and promotes a safe, clean, and neat environment for guests and other associates.
• Exhibits exceptional communication skills and gets along well with others, demonstrating flexibility and patience.
• Maintains a high level of sensitivity and confidentiality regarding personal or medical information shared by guests.
• Supervises the activities of food-service associates in the dining room to ensure proper customer service, food handling, and sanitation procedures are followed.
• Helps train new food-service team members.
• Answers phones professionally and takes restaurant reservations accurately.
• Supervises the closing of the assigned dining room, ensuring side work and station setup is properly completed.
• Demonstrates knowledge of emergency safety procedures and helps evacuate guests to safety in emergencies.
• Assists with service, including occasional bussing and food service, while maintaining safe food handling and sanitation standards.
• May be asked to operate equipment, including but not limited to fire extinguishers, telephones, iced tea/soda machines, and coffee machines.
• Works with staff of other departments to perform job duties and during special events or functions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Previous experience in a restaurant or country club setting.
• Excellent attention to cleanliness and safety.
• A positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good telephone speaking and listening abilities.
• Able to handle cash transactions and operate a point of sale system.

• Flexibility to work extended or irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to be on your feet for long extended hours.
