About the position

The General Manager will oversee all staff, budgets, and operations of the hotel, focusing on growing sales and ensuring the overall success of the business unit. This role requires strategic planning, effective management of personnel, and the establishment of policies to enhance productivity and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations and sales
  • Design strategy and set goals for growth
  • Maintain budgets and optimize expenses
  • Set policies and processes
  • Ensure employees work productively and develop professionally
  • Oversee recruitment and training of new employees
  • Evaluate and improve operations and financial performance through operations and sales
  • Direct the employee assessment process
  • Prepare regular reports for upper management
  • Ensure staff follows health and safety regulations
  • Provide solutions to issues (e.g. profit decline, employee conflicts, loss of business to competitors)
  • Achieve budgeted revenues and personal/team sales goals and maximize profitability
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget, the hotel marketing plan and business plan, and financial plans
  • Create and implement sales plans that drive measurable incremental occupancy, increase average rates, increase volume, food and beverage and banquet sales
  • Produce monthly reports and sales forecasts to analyze current/potential market and sales trends, coordinate activities to increase revenue and market share and monitor performance to ensure actual sales meet or exceed established revenue plan.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a General Manager or similar executive role
  • Experience in planning and budgeting
  • Knowledge of business process and functions (finance, HR, procurement, operations, sales and catering)
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership skills
  • Problem-solving aptitude
  • Related college degree required or substitute equivalent sales experience
  • Focus on profitable corporate business that enables achievement of the hotels sales revenue goals
  • Responsible for proactive and reactive sales efforts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability and desire to perform outside direct sales
  • Ability to perform the physical aspects of the job including sitting, bending, climbing, standing, reaching.
