About the position

The Hotel Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all maintenance work in the hotel is performed efficiently and to the highest standards. This role requires a proactive approach to guest interactions, where the engineer must greet guests by name when possible, inquire about the best time to perform maintenance, and ensure that the work is completed without leaving any trace behind. This includes removing all tools and parts from the guest room, cleaning up any mess, and ensuring that the room is left in pristine condition. The engineer is expected to maintain a professional appearance, being well-groomed and in a clean uniform at all times. The engineer will be tasked with maintaining and repairing all guest rooms according to the established standards and guidelines. This includes regular maintenance of HVAC systems, light bulbs, and keeping complete records of all work performed. The engineer must respond to guest calls within 15 minutes and inform dispatch upon completion of tasks. Additionally, the engineer will be required to complete training certifications and adhere to safety protocols, especially in emergency situations. The role also involves assisting other departments as needed and performing any other related duties assigned by the supervisor. The position requires a basic understanding of various mechanical and electronic systems, including locks, doors, plumbing, electrical systems, and fire prevention equipment. The engineer must be capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, and climbing, and must be able to respond quickly to emergencies. A high school diploma or equivalent, along with prior experience in building maintenance and construction, is preferred for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair all guest rooms in accordance with standards and guidelines set forth
  • Maintain HVAC filters in guest rooms
  • Maintain light bulbs in guest rooms and corridors
  • Maintain complete records of all work
  • Maintain daily log of all work completed
  • Maintain P.M. cart containing all necessary parts and materials
  • Respond to guest room calls within 15 minutes
  • Inform dispatch when calls are completed
  • Successfully complete Training Certification and review all departmental safety information
  • Practice emergency procedures in compliance with hotel/company standards in order to react and assist in any hotel emergency
  • Assist other departments by providing lateral service; perform all other related duties as assigned by Supervisor

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electronic locks: Mortise, Marlok, Vingcard etc.
  • Knowledge of doors, sliding glass, entry hinges, by-fold doors, etc.
  • Basic understanding of TV, remotes, telephone, and computer systems
  • Basic boiler room operations including steam and snow melt systems, boiler controls
  • Basic heating & cooling system including electronic thermostats and valves
  • Basic fire prevention equipment, extinguishers, and alarm systems detector and pull station, sprinkler systems, fire pump, dry/wet systems
  • Knowledge of drapes, blinds, rollers, wands, shower curtain glides, etc.
  • Basic plumbing skills including P-traps, tub drains, drain cleaners, toilets, etc.
  • Basic electrical skills including changing outlets, breakers, transformers, lighting ballast, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Emergency Generator and transfer switch

  • Prior experience in building maintenance and construction
