About the position

The University of Wyoming is seeking a Video Editor to join our Student Media team. This position is essential for editing content for a broadcast-style news program, ensuring that the final product meets the high standards expected in broadcast journalism. The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling raw footage, inputting uncut rushes and sound, and synchronizing and storing them onto Student Media's warehouse and broadcast platforms. The role requires a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of video editing techniques and protocols. In this position, the Video Editor will create rough cuts of programs or films to help determine the final product. They will oversee the quality and progress of audio and video engineering and editing, ensuring that all content is polished and ready for broadcast. Additionally, the Video Editor may be required to write voiceovers or commentary for reporters as needed, contributing to the overall storytelling of the broadcast. This role is part-time and requires the successful candidate to be available to work on campus, providing vital support to campus customers. Responsibilities

  • Assemble raw footage in preparation for inputting into a broadcast format.
  • Input uncut rushes and sound; synchronize and store them onto Student Media's warehouse and broadcast platforms.
  • Digitally cut files and prepare the sequence of the broadcast.
  • Create a rough cut of the program/film to utilize in determining the final product.
  • Oversee the quality and progress of audio and video engineering and editing.
  • Write voiceovers or commentary for the reporters as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Ability to edit raw content to produce a broadcast or other video product.
  • Knowledge of broadcast journalism principles and techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of video editing techniques, protocols and standards.
