About the position

Van Andel Institute (VAI), a world-class biomedical research institute located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is dedicated to improving human health. The Facilities Department at VAI is seeking to hire a full-time 2nd Shift Housekeeper. The mission of the Facilities Department is to create and maintain a "Best in Class" facility that exceeds customer expectations. This is accomplished by providing a clean, comfortable, and functional working environment where employees can achieve their professional goals and focus on their work. As a Housekeeper, you will be responsible for ensuring that the Institute maintains a neat, clean, safe, and sanitary environment. Your duties will include vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, waxing, and buffing floors, as well as dusting ceilings, vents, drapery, cubicles, and stairwells. You will also be responsible for shampooing furniture, emptying wastebaskets, recycling, and managing cardboard disposal. Additionally, you will utilize various kinds of equipment, tools, cleaning materials, and supplies, record supply inventory, set up rooms for special events, and perform other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a High School Diploma or GED and have general housekeeping experience in an academic, hospital, medical office, or laboratory setting. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work in a team environment and with minimal supervision. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with an hourly rate commensurate with relevant work experience and qualifications. The position is considered second shift, with working hours from 4:00 am to 12:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

Requirements
