About the position

The Housekeeping/Housekeeper position is responsible for providing a sanitary and aesthetically pleasing environment for patients, visitors, and employees within the hospital. This role involves cleaning sterile areas, disinfecting surfaces, and maintaining hospital equipment and supplies. The Housekeeper will perform various cleaning tasks such as wiping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming, as well as gathering and disposing of trash and bio-hazardous materials. The position requires adherence to safety and confidentiality policies, and the ability to exhibit excellent customer service while interacting with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and disinfects surfaces as required by wiping, dusting, dust mopping, wet mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming.
  • Gathers and disposes of trash, waste materials, and bio-hazardous materials.
  • Services and cleans paper and soap dispensers.
  • Maintains hospital equipment and supplies in good working order.
  • Removes and re-hangs draperies and cubicle curtains.
  • Identifies appropriate cleaning methods and products for specific environments.
  • Follows manufacturer directions and established hospital procedures for cleaning products.
  • Handles discarded hazardous materials safely and appropriately.
  • Cleans and assists with basic daily maintenance of equipment.
  • Follows procedures for scheduled removal or maintenance of draperies and curtains.
  • Exhibits excellence in customer service through appropriate attitude and interaction with all patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares rooms for new occupants.
  • Makes recommendations concerning painting, repairs, furnishings, and allocation of space to improve sanitation and efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • No prior experience required as this is an entry-level position.
  • Ability to learn and utilize cleaning applications and products.
  • Skill in following directions and organizing work.
  • Ability to read or listen and comprehend simple instructions in English for patient-facing roles.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers.
  • Ability to read a clock and accurately document time.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to perform basic computer tasks.
