About the position

The Housekeeping Manager (HM) at Sonesta White Plains is responsible for supervising the housekeeping and laundry operations to ensure high standards of cleanliness and service for hotel guests. This role involves managing daily activities, training staff, maintaining inventory, and addressing guest needs to enhance overall satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the day-to-day activities of the housekeeping department; schedule employees to ensure proper coverage.
  • Monitor performance and recommend/initiate disciplinary or other staffing/human resources-related actions in accordance with company rules and policies.
  • Ensure all staff is properly trained and have the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their respective job duties.
  • Schedule routine inspections of all guest rooms/suites and public areas to ensure cleanliness and good repair.
  • Respond to guest complaints and special requests, ensuring corrective action is taken for complete satisfaction.
  • Assist in controlling expenses and minimizing waste in all areas of housekeeping.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings and review all information pertinent to the day's activities.
  • Assist in maintaining par levels for supplies and equipment; replenish shortages as needed.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication with other departments.
  • Interact with outside contacts including guests, vendors, and regulatory agencies regarding safety and compliance matters.
  • May be responsible for the security of lost and found items or coordinate the lost and found function with other departments.
  • May assist with deep cleaning projects and/or assist housekeeping staff during rush periods.
  • May serve as 'manager on duty' as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus two years housekeeping or front office experience, preferably in a hotel of similar size and complexity.
  • One or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Fluent in English; other languages preferred.
  • Union experience preferred.
  • Ability to frequently stand, move, carry or lift items weighing up to 50lbs, and push/pull approximately 200lbs.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with guests, employees, and vendors.
  • Reading and writing abilities for completing paperwork and management reports.
  • Mathematical skills for budgeting and profit/loss concepts.
  • Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.

Nice-to-haves
