About the position

Legal Aid of Sonoma County (LASC) is seeking a passionate Housing Legal Case Worker to support its housing team, which includes five attorneys and four legal case workers. The role involves assisting with intake and administrative tasks to provide legal representation to low-income tenants facing eviction and other tenant rights issues. The position requires excellent organizational and time management skills due to the high-volume caseload and firm deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Answer housing hotline calls.
  • Triage and screen new clients for eligibility, complete intake paperwork, and create hard copy of case files as well as an electronic case file.
  • Conduct client interviews and draft client correspondence.
  • Maintain case files, including inputting up-to-date case notes, time reporting, and client demographic data.
  • Support attorneys' case work, including preparing and filing basic judicial council legal forms under attorney supervision, conducting research on resources or issues at the direction of the attorney, and providing support in Court as needed.
  • Maintain client and attorney meeting calendars, and track case deadlines and Court appearances.
  • Close completed cases and input and track closing data as necessary for contract compliance.
  • Coordinate and help facilitate tenant workshops and outreach events and track as needed for contract compliance.
  • Provide backup support to the front desk as needed.
  • Occasional driving to court, outreach events, community meetings, and client appointments is required.
  • Perform administrative and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least two (2) years' experience in administrative work, customer service, or public-facing work.
  • A commitment to working with all persons regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, economic background, immigration status, gender identification, or sexual orientation.
  • Compassion for and desire to help the vulnerable and underserved in our community.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a diverse team.
  • Must be flexible and work well under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including the Microsoft Office Suite and database programs.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively with great attention to detail, including timely case management and capturing of data for reports to funders.
  • A firm commitment to on-time and accurate timesheet reporting is required.
  • Valid CA Driver's license and current proof of automobile insurance required.

  • Prior legal services or non-profit experience is strongly preferred.
