About the position

The Housing Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that all apartments are in good repair, functional, and habitable. This role involves troubleshooting, problem-solving, and completing housing work orders while maintaining a safe and clean living environment for tenants.

Responsibilities

• Perform all aspects of building and apartment repairs and maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, flooring, lighting, painting, spackling, and cleaning.
• Use power tools and ladders safely.
• Assist tenants with small items and moves as approved by the supervisor.
• Pick up daily work orders and procure necessary supplies before service calls.
• Serve on the fire brigade after receiving training from GMHC authorized personnel.
• Read MSDS sheets and understand appropriate chemical applications.
• Handle exterminating and vermin control, recognizing when to assist and when to escalate to the landlord.
• Safely drive and maintain a service van, including vehicle safety checks and regular maintenance.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent education.
• Demonstrable experience in building and apartment repairs and maintenance.
• Valid unexpired driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience in janitorial work and use of cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to fill out reports electronically and manually.
• Organizational skills for tracking maintenance work and closing out tickets.
• Customer service skills, including the ability to deescalate situations.
