About the position

The Housing Navigator at JVS SoCal is responsible for connecting veterans experiencing homelessness with local and regional housing resources. This role involves building relationships with property management firms, housing agencies, and advocacy organizations to facilitate access to suitable housing options. The Navigator will also manage application processes, rental negotiations, and provide follow-up services to ensure housing stability for participants in the SSVF program.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and engage local and regional housing resources for SSVF participants.
  • Foster relationships with property management firms, property owners, and housing services agencies.
  • Develop strategies to meet individual member housing needs.
  • Facilitate application processes and move-in activities for participants.
  • Negotiate rental agreements and provide service referrals as needed.
  • Connect with landlords to educate them about the SSVF program and community resources.
  • Create and maintain a housing database to support linkages to available housing.
  • Coordinate housing services in collaboration with the team.
  • Provide follow-up services to ensure housing stability for participants.
  • Collect program data to assist with reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Career Counseling, or related field (may be substituted for experience).
  • Three or more years of experience working with priority populations.
  • Strong knowledge of homeless services and resources.
  • Demonstrated experience with Housing First principles.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet objectives and goals.
  • Timeliness and attention to detail.
