About the position

The Howard G. Buffett Foundation Visiting Professor of Visual Journalism at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication is a full-time, year-to-year academic position focused on teaching, mentoring, and editing visual storytelling projects. The role involves engaging with undergraduate and graduate students in producing high-quality photo and video journalism, contributing to the school's mission of fostering journalistic excellence and ethics.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching advanced skills courses for undergraduate and/or graduate students in producing photo and video enterprise projects.
  • Serving as a guest photo editor and coach in Cronkite News, editing student work and helping develop stories.
  • Mentoring student reporting fellows and editing visual storytelling content produced by student reporting fellows in the Carnegie-Knight News21 initiative.

Requirements

  • At least five years of professional journalism experience in visual storytelling.
  • Bachelor's degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Publication/distribution of work by national or international news organizations.
  • Experience with both photojournalism and video production.
  • Experience mentoring, editing or teaching students or beginning reporters.
  • Experience leading teams of reporters and/or producers.
  • Ability to report and produce content in Spanish.
  • A graduate degree.
