The HP Database Manager is responsible for ensuring that access and data use management protocols are strictly adhered to by all users, from senior management to end users. User support is also a key component of this role, as needed. In addition to technical expertise, the HP Database Manager leads a team, providing mentorship and fostering a positive team culture. This includes ensuring compliance with data protection regulations through regular audits and vulnerability assessments. The manager oversees the database management team, ensuring that all members effectively contribute to the organization's goals. Responsibilities include managing team schedules, assigning tasks, monitoring performance metrics, and providing feedback and support to team members to foster growth and development. The manager also identifies skill gaps and coordinates training programs to enhance the team's capabilities, while facilitating clear communication within the team and across departments.   • Plans, coordinates and implements security measures to safeguard information in computer systems against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure.
  • Specifies users and user access levels for each segment of database.
  • Develops standards and guidelines for use of software to protect vulnerable information.
  • Performs routine reviews of procedures listed in the database management system.
  • Reviews and updates procedures in the database management system manuals.
  • Creates a detailed database schema, including tables, relationships, and data types necessary to store athlete performance data.
  • Identifies key entities (e.g., athletes, performance metrics, health records, training schedules).
  • Defines attributes for each entity (e.g., athlete ID, name, age, performance metrics).
  • Establishes relationships between entities (e.g., one-to-many relationships between athletes and performance metrics).
  • Selects appropriate data types for each attribute (e.g., integer, varchar, date).
  • Creates a hierarchical structure for the data (e.g., categorizing performance metrics by type such as speed, strength, endurance).
  • Implements indexing strategies to enhance data retrieval performance.
  • Ensures data normalization to reduce redundancy and improve data integrity.
  • Defines protocols for entering new data into the database.
  • Establishes data validation rules to ensure the quality of data being entered.
  • Develops user manuals or training materials to assist staff with data entry procedures.
  • Implements automated validation checks within the database to enforce data entry guidelines.
  • Identifies and classifies PII within the database.
  • Develops and implements encryption protocols to secure PII both at rest and in transit.
  • Establishes access controls and audit logs to monitor and restrict access to sensitive data.
  • Creates guidelines for handling and sharing PII, ensuring compliance with relevant data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Conducts regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Assists users with troubleshooting and resolving access issues.
  • Provides guidance on the use of specific functionalities of the system.
  • Documents support cases and solutions provided.
  • Conducts system tuning to enhance performance.
  • Monitors system performance and identifies bottlenecks.
  • Performs regular database maintenance tasks.
  • Generates performance reports focusing on key metrics such as speed, endurance, recovery times, and injury reports.
  • Assists with specific data retrieval and report generation based on user needs.
  • Trains users and develops comprehensive documentation.

Requirements

  • Possess a bachelor's degree in Data Management (ABET-Accredited), Business Administration (Info Systems), Computer Science or Computer Engineering with 2+ years' professional experience or internship.
  • Completion of 40 hours of systems training.
  • Must have SQL proficiency and understanding of relational database concepts.
  • Exhibit strong data modeling and design skills.
  • Familiarity with database management systems (preferred experience with MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and/or PostgreSQL).
  • Proficient understanding and working knowledge of computer, e-mail, voice mail, and telephone texts to perform duties.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of data security best practices, including encryption, access controls, and auditing.
  • Must have automation and scripting skills (e.g., SQL, PowerShell, Python) for managing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot to ensure optimal database performance.
  • Must possess continuous learning and adaptation skills to stay abreast of the latest database technologies and industry trends.
