About the position

The HPC Linux System Administrator role at John C. Stennis Space Center involves monitoring and maintaining the health of high-performance computing systems, including compute, network, and storage components. The position requires responding to client tickets, managing support cases, and ensuring system security and availability. The administrator will also be responsible for planning and executing system upgrades, troubleshooting hardware issues, and assisting clients with application installations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and maintaining system health on the HPC system(s) -- compute, network and storage.
  • Reviewing, resolving and responding to client tickets.
  • Creating, monitoring and closing all support cases.
  • Maintaining availability reports for tracking SLA's.
  • Planning, scheduling and completing monthly patch upgrades on all systems and 6-month kernel upgrades.
  • Maintaining the security system required by the client.
  • Assisting the client with app installations.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing hardware issues.
  • Tracking/documenting the hardware repairs as well as opening, tracking, closing part cases and returning replaced parts.
  • Maintaining the on-call schedule to support our 365 24x7x2/4 contracts.
  • Assisting with hardware and system installation activities in new systems.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience in a related field.
  • Bachelor of Arts/Science or equivalent degree in computer science or related area of study; or 11+ years of relevant professional experience without a degree.
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification required.
  • CompTIA Linux+ Certification required.
  • Top Secret Clearance required.
  • Sufficient depth and breadth of technical knowledge to design and scope multiple deliverables across several technologies as it pertains to HPC.
  • Demonstrated innovation and communication of new deliverables and offerings.
  • Experience leading a team in the delivery of multiple deliverables across multiple technologies.
  • Ability to develop solutions that enhance availability, performance, maintainability, and agility of a customer's enterprise.
  • Contributed to the design and application of new tools.
  • Recognized expert in one or more technologies within own technical community and at regional level.
  • Ability to work in a multi-tech environment and diagnose complex technical problems to their root cause.
  • Strong troubleshooting and consulting skills, with the ability to summarize prognosis and impact at practice lead level.
  • Broad understanding of market dynamics, industry areas, commercial issues, and technical concerns while maintaining depth in core focus area.
  • Ability to present within your own area of expertise as part of technical demos.
