About the position

The University of Utah is seeking a dedicated HR Analyst II, also known as a Human Resources Generalist, to join its Human Resources team. This position is integral to ensuring that University leaders have the necessary support to manage their divisions effectively. The HR Generalist will primarily serve as the first point of contact for various departments, assisting with a wide range of HR functions including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, benefits administration, payroll, compensation, employee relations, and processing employment changes. The role requires a proactive approach to customer service, efficiency, and the ability to develop new programs and initiatives that meet the needs of management. The HR Generalist will work closely with an Associate HR Director and will be expected to maintain a strong knowledge base of HR practices, University policies, and employment law. This hybrid position requires the incumbent to work on campus at least two days a week, with the first three weeks dedicated to on-site training. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for managing and organizing inbound requests for employment updates and HR-related information, consulting with department management on HR concerns, and providing support to employees on various HR topics. Building strong relationships with clients to understand their business needs is essential, as is the ability to prioritize and organize tasks effectively for timely execution. This position is designed for individuals who are highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Responsibilities

  • Manage, organize, and execute inbound requests for employment updates and Human Resource-related information.
  • Communicate proactively with clients about task updates and completion.
  • Consult with department management and leadership on Human Resource concerns.
  • Provide support to employees on various Human Resource-related topics such as onboarding and resources.
  • Build strong relationships with clients to understand business needs and organization.
  • Partner with supervisors and managers on recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge base of Human Resource practices, University policies, employment law, and University resources.
  • Use independent judgment to handle and resolve customer service needs and address confidential situations in a professional manner.
  • Facilitate meetings, group discussions, and projects.
  • May participate on various committees.
  • Effectively prioritize and organize tasks for timely execution.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree with up to 2 years of directly related work experience or a master's degree.
  • Assumes work equivalency (1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with PeopleSoft, PeopleAdmin, and other HRIS systems preferred.
