About the position

The HR Benefits Specialist is responsible for managing and optimizing employee benefit programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and analyzing data to inform management decisions. This role involves conducting surveys, benchmarking practices, and preparing reports to support the benefits infrastructure. The position is a contract role based in Cleveland, with a standard work schedule of Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and has the potential for extension or permanent hire.

Responsibilities

  • Determines employee benefit practices by benchmarking best practices, researching industry and employment trends, tracking legislation, and estimating impact.
  • Conducts employee surveys to determine benefit interests and analyzes responses.
  • Completes regional and national benefit surveys.
  • Recommends employee benefit programs by examining, evaluating, and optimizing employee understanding, acceptance, and interests, costs, regulatory requirements, and competitive advantages.
  • Provides management planning and control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing employee benefit data and trends.
  • Maintains documentation of all procedures for the team.
  • Routinely audits benefits databases and processes for compliance.
  • Prepares reports that are key to the infrastructure needed to manage benefits, including invoice reconciliation and eligibility discrepancy reports.
  • Develops and updates control documents.
  • Tracks metrics for various benefit projects and initiatives.
  • Conducts system testing for new implementations, upgrades, and renewals.
  • Assists with federal filings and reporting.

Requirements

  • Overall understanding of Health and Welfare Plans and Retirement Plans.
  • Understanding of benefits administration concerning data utilization and data transmission to supporting internal departments (Finance, Information Technology, Payroll, etc.) and external vendors/administrators.
  • Knowledge of various regulations such as ERISA, USERRA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, etc. is a plus.
  • Strong reporting, analytical, communication, and presentation skills are required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required with 3 to 5 years of benefits and data analytics experience.
  • CEBS certification preferred.
