The Human Resources/Benefits Specialist at LAZ Parking plays a crucial role in supporting the HR Business Partner for the Northern California region. The HR/Benefits Specialist will act as a liaison between the Home Office and operational teams, ensuring that the individual needs of employees are met while adhering to company policies and procedures. In this role, the HR/Benefits Specialist will manage various HR functions, including weekly payroll processing, employee relations, compliance with state and federal laws, and managing leaves of absence such as FMLA and state disability. The specialist will also be responsible for maintaining the HRIS system, processing employee status changes, and ensuring timely communication regarding employee benefits. Additionally, the role involves leveraging analytics and data to drive results and responding to unemployment notices to protect the company's interests. The HR/Benefits Specialist will also coordinate with the Talent Acquisition Specialist for recruiting, training, and onboarding new hires, ensuring a smooth integration into the company's systems. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment. The HR/Benefits Specialist will be expected to conduct new hire orientations, assist with union benefits and dues billing, and support HR-related duties for the Northwest region as needed. This role is essential in promoting a culture of servant leadership and ensuring that LAZ Parking remains compliant with all employment regulations while supporting its employees effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage weekly payroll processing by ensuring managers sign off on hours in a timely manner.
  • Understand, interpret, administer, and mediate inquiries related to company policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Collaborate to ensure pay data is completed and uploaded properly, ensuring wage and hour compliance.
  • Assist the Human Resources Business Partner on employee relations issues.
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws, updating forms, policies, and procedures as needed.
  • Manage all leaves of absence, including FMLA and state disability leaves.
  • Process employee maintenance in the HRIS system, including status changes and terminations.
  • Leverage analytics and data to identify better ways to drive results.
  • Respond to unemployment notices in a timely manner for favorable outcomes.
  • Act as a liaison to the Home Office for employee benefits inquiries.
  • Manage workers' compensation for the region, including claims reporting and back-to-work programs.
  • Handle all employee communications for the region.
  • Compute eligibility data and ensure timely submission of payment requests for benefits and dues.
  • Coordinate with the Talent Acquisition Specialist for recruiting, training, and onboarding.
  • Conduct new hire orientations as needed.
  • Assist in HR-related duties for the Northwest region when necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-4 years of Human Resources experience with emphasis on payroll and compliance.
  • Experience in employee relations, workers' compensation, and benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws.
  • Working knowledge of ADP HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Basic experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Office applications.
  • Strong customer service skills and abilities.
  • Ability to facilitate coaching conversations with employees and managers.
  • Excellent basic math skills.
  • Ability to encourage open expression of ideas and opinions.
  • Excellent team-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization.
