About the position

The HR Communications and Information Specialist position at Prince George's County Government is a professional management level role within the Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM). The specialist will enhance both internal and external communications for the agency, develop and maintain its brand, and provide strategic advice and support to senior leadership. This role involves coordinating communication projects, serving as a spokesperson, and overseeing the agency's communication strategies, particularly in social media and website management.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates special communication projects using proper County policies and procedures.
  • Represents and serves as the Public Information Officer (PIO) spokesperson for the Director with stakeholders.
  • Oversees the development of communication strategy for the agency in areas such as social media and website design.
  • Develops, edits, and prepares correspondence, emails, and other informational materials for dissemination regarding agency programs and services.
  • Prepares and presents policy briefings, talking points, presentations, and proposals ensuring information is accurate and concise.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business or Public Administration, Human Resources Management, Communication/Journalism, or related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of responsible experience in human resources/human capital related public relations, communications, digital communications, website design, and social media management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing and executing strategic Human Resources and/or employee-focused initiatives.
  • Experience working with local or federal government.
  • Experience working with graphic, web, and social media design.
  • Experience in leadership of analytical work and complex processes in a high volume, diverse, and intense environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and methods of public administration and local government.
