About the position

The HR Compliance Specialist at Andersen Corporation plays a crucial role in ensuring that the company adheres to all applicable California employment compliance obligations. This position is responsible for implementing various projects and initiatives related to California employment practices compliance, as well as auditing these programs once they are in place. The specialist will conduct thorough research on emerging compliance issues in California, collect and analyze compliance-related data, and track this information for management review. This includes areas such as payroll, wage and hour requirements, and other HR-related activities. The HR Compliance Specialist will work closely with company policies, procedures, and practices to ensure they comply with both federal and California state employment laws. The ideal candidate for this position will reside in California and will have the flexibility to work remotely, with occasional travel required to Orange County and Los Angeles. The role involves conducting audits and analyzing data related to meal and rest breaks, time and attendance, and ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements. The specialist will compile and analyze HR data, develop conclusions, and communicate recommendations to continuously improve human resources practices. Additionally, the role requires monitoring a compliance email inbox, responding to employee inquiries, and collaborating with HR leadership to develop corrective action plans and identify training opportunities. The HR Compliance Specialist must possess a working knowledge of statutes impacting payroll, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and California labor laws. Staying updated on regulatory changes affecting California employers and employees is essential, as is supporting the implementation of necessary changes. The specialist will also implement special projects by clarifying objectives, setting schedules, conducting research, and organizing information. Continuous education and personal development are encouraged to maintain the necessary skill set for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct audits and analyze data related to meal and rest breaks, time and attendance to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Compile and analyze HR data, developing and communicating conclusions and recommendations to continuously improve human resources practices.
  • Monitor compliance email inbox and correspondence; respond to employee inquiries, prioritize and escalate sensitive matters when needed.
  • Work with HR Leadership and General Management to develop corrective action plans and identify opportunities for training and education.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of statutes impacting payroll and best practices in employment law, including payroll and timekeeping.
  • Support Human Resource compliance by staying abreast of regulatory changes impacting California employers and employees; communicate regulatory updates and support implementation of changes.
  • Implement special projects by clarifying project objectives, setting timetables and schedules, conducting research, and organizing information.
  • Maintain skill set through continuing education and both professional and personal development.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree plus 5-7 years' experience in an employment compliance role.
  • Experience researching employment laws and implementing and monitoring a compliance program.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational and work prioritization skills.
  • Ability to create, maintain, and improve processes to increase overall team efficiency.
  • Exemplary analytical capabilities and problem-solving skills, including experience with analyzing large amounts of data and developing metrics, reporting mechanisms, and audit reports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
