About the position

The HR Coordinator (Payroll & Benefits) at California Autism Center is responsible for managing payroll processes and administering employee benefits programs. This role requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and effective communication with employees at all levels. The coordinator will ensure compliance with payroll practices and laws while contributing to the overall employee experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
  • Perform quality checks of benefits-related data.
  • Assist employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
  • Distribute all benefits enrollment materials and determine eligibility.
  • Respond to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefit enrollment, status changes, and other general inquiries.
  • Respond to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes, and contribution amounts.
  • Assist with the open enrollment process.
  • Participate in employee engagement initiatives related to compensation and benefits.
  • Handle the full-cycle payroll process for all employees.
  • Review and approve timecards or attendance records from various departments.
  • Ensure all payroll transactions are processed efficiently and accurately.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer employee inquiries related to payroll matters.
  • Prepare and maintain reports related to payroll activities for internal and external audits.
  • Maintain accurate and organized payroll records for all employees.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in HR or related field, or equivalent experience/training/certification.
  • Two years' experience in HR and/or benefits administration and/or payroll-focused role.
  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
  • Strong familiarity with payroll software (e.g., Paylocity, ADP, Paychex, UKG).
  • A deep understanding of payroll and tax regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and analytical skills.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field of study.
  • SHRM-CP or HRCI Professional in Human Resources (PHR) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of compensation principles, benefits programs, and HR regulations.
  • Certifications in Payroll (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional).
