About the position

The HR Data & Compensation Analyst position is a key member of the Compensation & People Analytics team at JD Finish Line. This role focuses on two primary areas: executing data and analytics work for the HR department and administering compensation activities. The analyst will be responsible for building dashboards using business intelligence tools such as Looker and Power BI, creating visualizations to measure departmental KPIs against the goals of the People Department strategy. The time spent on each focus area will vary throughout the year based on business needs. In the BI & Analytics domain, the analyst will utilize advanced data manipulation skills to administer compensation activities, focusing on process improvement and automation. This includes taking raw data from various sources, cleaning and transforming it, and creating automated dashboards and reports that provide visibility into key performance indicators such as turnover, retention, employee relations, staffing, engagement, benefits, and exit interview data. The analyst will partner with HR Technology and IT Analytics teams to build automation, reducing manual reporting requirements and innovating through technology. Additionally, the analyst will research data and analytics industry trends within the HR field and recommend process improvements for data acquisition and utilization. In the Compensation area, the analyst will conduct job and market pay analysis to determine appropriate salary recommendations and FLSA classifications. They will collaborate with the Talent team on in-depth pay analysis to ensure fair and competitive total rewards offerings. The analyst will administer bonus programs quarterly and annually, manage pay changes with a focus on performance-based merit increases and market adjustments, and work on strategic projects such as pay banding across the organization. Compliance with compensation programs will also be a key responsibility, including audits and documentation updates as business needs change. The role may also involve additional duties and projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize advanced data manipulation skills to administer compensation activities with a focus on process improvement and automation.
  • Clean and transform raw data from various sources to create automated dashboards and reports for departmental KPIs.
  • Partner with HR Technology and IT Analytics teams to build automation and reduce manual reporting requirements.
  • Research data and analytics industry trends in the HR field and recommend process improvements.
  • Act as a consultant to other People Department teams, understanding their business objectives and developing insights for decision making.
  • Conduct job and market pay analysis to determine appropriate salary recommendations and FLSA classifications.
  • Collaborate with the Talent team on pay analysis to ensure fair and competitive total rewards offerings.
  • Administer bonus programs on a quarterly and annual basis, including configuration of spreadsheets and communication of results.
  • Manage pay changes, focusing on performance-based merit increases and market adjustments.
  • Work on strategic projects such as pay banding with an emphasis on retail store partnerships.
  • Analyze compensation programs for compliance and trends among similar organizations.
  • Administer compliance programs related to pay, including minimum wage processes and Fair Labor Standards Act changes.
  • Maintain, update, and improve documentation and automation of compensation activities.
  • Conduct regular audits of various compensation programs.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in business, finance, or data/analytics.
  • 1 - 3 years of professional experience in a data and analytics role or compensation role, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience or keen interest in HR data and analytics is a plus.
  • Proven track record of working with complex data sets and creating dashboards using business intelligence tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets.
  • Strong experience with BI tools such as Looker, Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
  • Experience in scripting languages such as Python, Javascript, and/or SQL is beneficial.
  • Basic to intermediate experience with HRIS tools like Workday or Dayforce is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
