About the position

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is seeking a skilled HR Data Engineer to join our HR Digital and Transformation team in Herndon, VA. This position is a contract role that requires a strong background in data engineering, particularly in building and optimizing data sets and pipelines. The ideal candidate will have experience in transforming raw HR data into useful data systems, managing workloads, and optimizing data delivery architecture. We are looking for a versatile individual with a keen attention to detail and a problem-solving attitude to help us transform the future of HR at Airbus. As an HR Data Engineer, you will interact with data via APIs and will be knowledgeable in creating API endpoints. You will be responsible for building ETL pipelines and supporting the tools used for monitoring the health of these pipelines. Automation of processes to reduce manual data entry is a key responsibility, along with the ability to work with semi-structured and unstructured data. You will identify and implement improvements to our data ecosystem based on industry best practices and will be tasked with assembling large, complex sets of data that meet both functional and non-functional business requirements. In this role, you will follow best practices through pair programming, constructive code reviews, and thorough testing. You will perform business data analysis, identifying key facts and recommendations in accordance with Airbus business standards. Additionally, you will identify key HR Data Transformation challenges and build or maintain a robust end-to-end data pipeline platform using cutting-edge technologies. Responsibilities

  • Interact with data via APIs and create API endpoints.
  • Build and support ETL pipelines and monitoring tools.
  • Automate processes to reduce manual data entry.
  • Work with semi-structured and unstructured data.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the data ecosystem based on best practices.
  • Build, refactor, and maintain data pipelines from multiple sources.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet business requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science/Analytics, Applied Sciences, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in SQL and Python.
  • Experience building ETL pipelines using code or ETL platforms.
  • Some experience with Relational Database Systems and concepts.
  • Strong development experience with Python (or Scala/Java/Pyspark).
  • Experience with complex SQL and building pipelines with Apache Spark framework.
  • Knowledge of schema design and dimensional modeling.
  • Experience with data quality checks and validation.
  • Experience with workflow management engines like Apache Airflow.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Attention to detail with strong communication and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with offline and online feature engineering solutions for Machine Learning.
  • Certification in Data Engineering such as Google Cloud Certified Professional Data Engineer certification.
  • Fluent in French, German, or Spanish.
