About the position

The Director of Human Resources at the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) plays a pivotal role in overseeing the human resources function within the organization. This position is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and health of the HR department, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and administrative rulings from governmental organizations and regulatory authorities. The Director serves as a business partner to the senior leadership team, contributing to the creation of a positive, motivating, and safe work environment that attracts and retains quality talent. Additionally, the Director acts as the Authority's Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Officer, ensuring that the organization adheres to EEO policies and practices. In this role, the Director will lead and manage the human resources strategy and operations, providing guidance to ensure that the organization has the appropriate human resources to fulfill its mission. This includes developing a high-performance team within the HR department that can deliver services effectively and efficiently, even in a changing environment. The Director will also participate in senior agency leadership, contributing to the overall development and success of TheRide as a vital public transit service in the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti community. The position requires a deep understanding of HR practices, particularly in a public sector context, and the ability to navigate labor negotiations effectively.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in all areas of HR, including direct labor negotiating experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field with concentrated coursework in human resources management.
  • Master's degree and/or SPHR and/or SHRM-SCP preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a public sector environment.
