About the position

The HR Director for Fiber, Supply Chain, and Operating Functions at WestRock will report directly to the Vice President of Human Resources for the Mills Organization. This role is pivotal in partnering with the leadership teams across various sectors including Logistics and Planning, Forestry and Recycled Fiber, Process Improvement, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Services, as well as Strategic Initiatives. The successful candidate will serve as a business and thought partner, contributing to the evolution of the business strategy and execution plans. This position is responsible for creating the organization and talent strategy that aligns with the business vision, while also leading the HR team that supports these areas. The HR Director will be accountable for building strong partnerships with leaders and employees, ensuring that the full HR function supports the organizational and talent management objectives. Based in Atlanta, GA, this position will provide HR leadership and support for over 1000 employees, including multiple Recycling plants and Forest Resources locations across the United States. The HR Director will work closely with business leadership to develop strategies that drive the organization’s capability and talent agenda. Regular reviews of organizational design and effectiveness will be conducted to ensure alignment with business strategies and priorities. The role will also involve leading key initiatives in employee relations, organizational development, performance management, workforce planning, talent acquisition, talent development, succession planning, and diversity and inclusion. The HR Director will drive a robust talent management agenda, ensuring the right talent is available and prepared for future needs, while also collaborating with various HR functions to enhance programming and support for talent retention and development.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leadership teams in Logistics and Planning, Forestry and Recycled Fiber, Process Improvement, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Services.
  • Contribute to the development of business strategy to drive organizational capability and talent agenda.
  • Review organizational design and effectiveness, implementing necessary actions to align with business strategy.
  • Lead initiatives in employee relations, organizational development, performance management, workforce planning, talent acquisition, talent development, succession planning, and diversity and inclusion.
  • Drive talent management agenda ensuring the best fit of talent and capabilities is available and building for future requirements.
  • Engage with Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Compensation & Benefits, and HR Services to design and lead initiatives that support business objectives.
  • Assess internal talent pipeline and collaborate with Talent Acquisition to attract outside talent.
  • Identify training needs and solutions for the function and individual leadership coaching needs with Learning & Organizational Development.
  • Lead total rewards strategy and actions, ensuring alignment of performance management and compensation programs with business results.
  • Support safety programs in partnership with Safety Leadership, including participation in safety committees and training compliance.
  • Advise on HR and compliance policies to foster effective employee relations and positive engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related discipline; Master's preferred.
  • Ten+ years of experience in a fast-paced HR business partner or business role, preferably in operations, sales, technical sales, and marketing in a global environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in employee relations, organizational development & planning, talent management consulting, and compensation/rewards.
  • Ability to think and operate like a business leader with proven business and financial acumen.
  • Hands-on, self-motivated, and goal-oriented individual who inspires high performance through effective communication and management practices.
  • Proven ability to anticipate customer needs and recommend actions to address challenges.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a matrixed environment, building partnerships across multiple areas and geographies.
  • Significant experience in business-oriented organization design and effectiveness.
  • Balance of experience in growth and productivity aspects of HR.
  • Strong coaching and influencing skills.
  • Proven project management capabilities.
  • Ability to broker business and HR resources to deliver agenda.
  • Willingness to travel to locations across the US (20-40% travel).
