About the position

The Human Resources Director at Winston-Salem State University will play a crucial role in advancing the strategic goals of the university and the HR department. This position is responsible for overseeing various HR operations, including Payroll Management, Leave Administration, HRIS, and records management. The HR Director will also manage Workers' Compensation duties, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while supporting employee needs and maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources to develop and execute university and HR strategic goals.
  • Oversee payroll operations to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing, addressing any issues or discrepancies.
  • Direct and manage leave programs, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to leave.
  • Oversee the functionality, integrity, and security of HR data within the HRIS and Banner systems.
  • Implement and monitor records management policies, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of five years of professional work experience in human resources and payroll, or a master's degree with a minimum of three years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of university, state, and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Certification in HR (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Higher education experience and work with the University of North Carolina System are strongly preferred.
