About the position

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading the HR operations across North America, specifically in Canada and the USA. This role involves building a robust HR infrastructure to support the employee life cycle, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation within the organization. The Director will manage employee relations, enhance recruitment processes, and develop strategies for employee engagement and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Lead North American HR operations in Canada and USA.
  • Build the HR infrastructure for the employee life cycle.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Maintain a high-quality central HR function with appropriate technology and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. and Canadian laws and regulations.
  • Manage labor and employee relations issues fairly and objectively.
  • Create a first-class recruiting experience through effective programs.
  • Partner with management to maximize talent acquisition and retention.
  • Lead development and execution of employee engagement and retention strategies.
  • Manage the performance management process and improve performance management systems.
  • Support other regions as directed by leadership or business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business, or Organizational Development; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources, including manufacturing experience.
  • General knowledge of various employment laws and practices in the US and Canada.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop HR staff members.
  • Solid understanding of employment law, recruitment and selection, employee relations, compensation, and benefits functions.
  • HRIS implementation experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Labor relations and union relations experience preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and collaboratively about staff development and training.
