About the position

Family Paths is a non-profit agency that has provided mental health and family support services to strengthen families and prevent child abuse since 1972. As the HR Director at Family Paths, you will lead the strategic direction and daily operations of our HR function. This pivotal role is essential in building, developing, and managing all aspects of HR—from talent acquisition to compliance—in alignment with our mission and organizational goals. You will ensure the seamless delivery of services in areas such as performance management, employee relations, compensation, benefits, recruitment, and training. In this role, you will be a key member of our senior Directors team, driving innovation, fostering a collaborative workplace culture, and mentoring staff at all levels. You will collaborate closely with the finance team to provide a strong business partnership on topics related to headcount planning and payroll. This position requires a proactive, detail-oriented, hands-on leader with a knack for building strong relationships and driving change. You will also demonstrate and commit to the agency's mission, vision, and values, including a strong commitment to issues of social justice and culturally and linguistically responsive practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement comprehensive HR policies, procedures, and systems to establish a robust HR infrastructure.
  • Collaborate closely with senior Directors to align HR strategies with organizational objectives across talent acquisition, training, compensation, and performance management.
  • Lead and mentor the HR team, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
  • Develop and execute a compelling talent acquisition strategy to attract and retain top talent, ensuring a seamless and positive candidate experience.
  • Manage the full recruitment life cycle, from job postings to onboarding, while maintaining fairness and consistency in hiring practices.
  • Provide guidance and training to hiring managers and interviewers on recruitment best practices and policies.
  • Partner with Directors to develop and implement a performance management strategy that enhances organizational performance and supports employee development.
  • Design and implement performance appraisal systems that facilitate fair and objective evaluation of employee contributions.
  • Advise the agency and Executive Director on topics of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Trauma-informed Practices.
  • Promote a culture of belonging and development that enhances the well-being and growth of our team members.
  • Collaborate with Directors to implement initiatives aimed at enhancing employee engagement and retention.
  • Address employer relations issues with empathy and effectiveness, ensuring timely resolution and promoting a supportive work environment.
  • Ensure we are ahead of the curve with HR best practices, labor laws, and regulations, maintaining accurate and secure employee records.
  • Oversee the administration and accuracy of our HR information systems (HRIS) to support HR operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR management experience required, with at least 2 years being in a non-profit environment.
  • 2+ years of experience leading, managing, and mentoring HR teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of California labor laws and regulations.
  • Proven track record in building and scaling HR functions and programs from the ground up, including policy creation, systems development, and talent management.
  • Demonstrates a proactive and innovative approach to HR challenges and opportunities, supported by strong strategic thinking, leadership prowess, and adept project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data, make informed decisions, and devise effective HR solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective and meaningful work relationships at all levels.
  • Proven coaching and mentoring abilities and a strong work ethic.
  • A commitment to discretion and the highest levels of confidentiality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with clarity and intention.
