About the position

The Human Resources Director at Freedom Project is responsible for overseeing and managing all human resources and payroll functions. This role involves developing and implementing HR policies, managing recruitment and retention, overseeing employee relations, and ensuring compliance with employment laws. The HR Director collaborates closely with the Executive Director and other directors to align HR strategies with the organization's goals, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives that align with Freedom Project's overall mission and objectives.
  • Create and maintain HR policies and procedures in collaboration with the Chief of Operations that comply with legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Chief of Operations to shape Freedom Project's culture and employee engagement strategies.
  • Manage recruitment processes, including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and selection.
  • Develop and manage onboarding programs for new employees.
  • Oversee and process payroll operations, ensuring timely and accurate payroll for all employees.
  • Ensure payroll processing complies with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees.
  • Maintain up-to-date payroll records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data security requirements.
  • Address and resolve employee concerns, grievances, and conflicts using a restorative lens.
  • Develop and implement performance management processes, including performance reviews and feedback mechanisms.
  • Provide HR-related support focusing on career development and wellness activities.
  • Work on compensation structures, including salary ranges and raises.
  • Manage employee benefits programs, such as health insurance and retirement plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legal requirements and industry standards regarding compensation and benefits.
  • Design and implement training and development programs to enhance employee skills.
  • Create or source leadership training and coaching programs for managerial development.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Conduct regular HR audits to ensure policy adherence and identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement strategies for workplace safety and employee health.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential HR records and data, including employee information and performance metrics.
  • Prepare and present HR reports and metrics to the Board of Directors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master's degree or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, PHR) is preferred.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of HR experience, with 1-3 years in a management role.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage an HR team with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to align HR and payroll strategies with organizational goals.
  • Effective in managing employee issues and performance challenges with respect and professionalism.
  • Proficient in analyzing HR and payroll data to drive decision-making and process improvements.
  • Experience with HR and payroll software, including HRIS and payroll processing systems.
