About the position

The Human Resources Employment Consultant at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is responsible for recruiting and sourcing talent for various departments. This role involves collaborating with departments to understand their hiring needs, training employees on the recruitment process, and ensuring compliance with university policies. The consultant also supports onboarding and provides HR consultation to management and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Screens all positions in assigned departments and advances candidates meeting the minimum requirements to designated HR liaisons.
  • Ensures departments submit justifications for selections and processing for offer approvals through the compensation team, extends offers and benefits, and participates in negotiations with selected candidates.
  • Supports the onboarding of employees in one or more employee categories consistent with university policies and procedures.
  • Serves as work unit-based HR subject matter expert and provides consultation and assistance to management and administrative staff on a variety of HR policies and issues.
  • Supports managers and supervisors with recruitment and hiring, job classification and salary administration, employee relations, and performance management.
  • Responds to inquiries and/or troubleshoot issues for employees regarding recruitment.
  • Collaborates with departments to understand needs, requirements, and environments for requested positions.
  • Researches additional avenues for locating active and passive candidates such as alignment with associations, local colleges, job fairs, conferences, seminars, and area meetings.
  • Addresses basic HR-related questions and directs employees to appropriate policies and/or advanced subject matter experts in the Office of Human Resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (transcript required).
  • One year of diverse experience at the HR professional level covering a range of HR disciplines with a significant focus on recruitment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of recruitment techniques.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations related to employment.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, make sound decisions, and adapt to changing tasks.
  • Excellent computer skills.
