About the position

The HR Generalist 2 position at the University of California, Berkeley, is designed to provide comprehensive human resources support to various departments within the College of Letters and Sciences, specifically focusing on the Divisions of Social Sciences, Arts & Humanities, and Undergraduate Studies. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the HR needs of these departments are met efficiently and effectively, fostering a collaborative environment that emphasizes equity and inclusion. The SHARE mission is to deliver timely HR services, including recruitment, compensation, employee relations, labor relations, payroll, benefits, training and development, visa procurement, and interlocation transfers. The HR Generalist will manage appointments for student assistants, visiting scholars, affiliates, and graduate student researchers, ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures. In this role, the HR Generalist will be responsible for appointment administration, which includes compiling personnel information, monitoring appointment data, and confirming eligibility and authorizations. The position requires generating reports using various UC systems for personnel activity analysis and compliance monitoring. The HR Generalist will also provide guidance to supervisors in developing job descriptions and communicating benefits, while conducting HR trend analyses to inform departmental strategies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of HR policies and procedures, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while managing sensitive information. This position is integral to supporting the university's commitment to diversity, equity, and social justice, ensuring that all staff and students feel included and valued within the Berkeley community.

Responsibilities

  • Comply personnel information and collect appointment data for HR processes.
  • Monitor appointment spreadsheets and confirm appropriate authorizations and eligibility.
  • Perform onboarding and benefits counseling as needed.
  • Generate reports in UC Systems for analysis of personnel activity and compliance.
  • Monitor appointment end date reports and partner with departments to resolve issues.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information effectively in partnership with client groups.
  • Provide guidance to supervisors in developing student job descriptions and facilitating benefits communications.
  • Conduct HR trends analyses and help develop resulting recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Basic knowledge of human resources policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Working knowledge of HR functional areas such as HR Policy, HCM data entry, benefits, recruitment, and payroll.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations.
  • Excellent listening and customer service skills.
  • Ability to apply tact and diplomacy in difficult situations.
  • Highly motivated and adaptable in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Results-oriented with good organizational skills and creative problem-solving ability.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication.

Nice-to-haves
