About the position

The HR Generalist 3 serves as a vital member of a Staff Team within a shared services model of the integrated HR organization at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). This position is designed to partner closely with various client departments to facilitate their business goals while proactively addressing and resolving both routine and complex HR issues. The HR Generalist is responsible for ensuring compliance with UCSF HR policies and procedures while delivering efficient and effective HR services. As a seasoned professional, the HR Generalist 3 possesses a comprehensive understanding of UC systemwide and campus staff HR practices, policies, and procedures, enabling them to resolve a wide range of moderate to complex staff HR issues, including employment, compensation, salary administration, benefits and leaves, performance management, and employee and labor relations. In this role, the HR Generalist 3 will tackle diverse and complex problems, requiring a thorough inquiry into various factors to recommend and implement effective solutions. The position demands a high standard of customer service, adherence to service level agreements, and the ability to meet related metrics. The HR Generalist will perform all duties with the utmost tact, discretion, and in accordance with confidentiality requirements. The compensation for this position is competitive, with offers typically falling within 80% to 120% of the established mid-point, depending on the candidate's experience and current salary levels of similar roles at UCSF. Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with client departments to facilitate business goals and address HR issues.
  • Resolve a full range of moderate to complex staff HR issues, including employment, compensation, and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with UCSF HR policies and procedures while delivering effective HR services.
  • Maintain high customer service standards and meet service level agreements and related metrics.
  • Handle difficult or volatile situations effectively with tact and discretion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and a minimum of three years of Human Resources experience or equivalent experience/training.
  • Strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations.
  • Thorough knowledge of human resources concepts, policies, and procedures, including labor relations and salary administration.
  • Ability to learn the university's Human Resources Management Systems and related business software programs.
  • Skilled in clear and effective verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing work assignments and employ political acumen.

Nice-to-haves

  • HR Professional certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP).
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures and understanding of how work may affect other areas.
