About the position

The HR Generalist position at the Center for Elders' Independence is a vital role that reports directly to the Chief HR Officer. This position is responsible for assisting in the development and administration of top-tier human resources programs aimed at attracting, retaining, and developing high-caliber employees. The HR Generalist will advise and assist both management and employees on various employee-related issues and concerns, ensuring effective communication and interpretation of human resource policies and procedures. This role is crucial in maintaining a positive work environment and fostering employee engagement aligned with the organization's mission, vision, and values. In this role, the HR Generalist will perform day-to-day operations within the human resources department, ensuring that all actions are executed accurately and in a timely manner. This includes maintaining all documents, records, and files in an organized manner, developing efficient procedures, and maintaining necessary data and statistics to support operations. The HR Generalist will also assist in problem resolution, conflict management, performance management, and corrective actions, as well as facilitate continuous process improvement within the HR function. The position involves participating in the development, implementation, and ongoing assessment of human resources programs, policies, and procedures. The HR Generalist will research trends and best practices, monitor existing programs and policies, and identify opportunities for improvement. Compliance with all regulatory requirements and laws is a critical aspect of this role, as is the administration of compensation programs, which includes job analysis, market reviews, and wage adjustments. The HR Generalist will also assess employee engagement through various methods, including analytics and exit interviews, and recommend actions for positive change.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and administration of human resources programs.
  • Advise and assist management and employees on employee issues and concerns.
  • Perform day-to-day operations within the human resources department.
  • Maintain all documents, records, and files in good order.
  • Develop effective and efficient procedures and maintain data and statistics.
  • Assist with problem resolution, conflict management, and performance management.
  • Facilitate continuous process improvement.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and assessment of HR programs and policies.
  • Research trends and best practices and develop recommendations.
  • Monitor programs and policies; identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and laws.
  • Administer compensation programs and provide guidance on policies and procedures.
  • Investigate and respond to unemployment claims.
  • Assess employee engagement and recommend actions for positive change.
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in business, human resources management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of previous experience in a generalist human resources role in a complex organization.
  • Experience with US and California employment laws and regulations.
  • Ability to cultivate effective partnerships and collaborate with managers and staff.
  • Strong facilitation and coaching skills.
  • Ability to work independently and perform a wide variety of assignments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of human resources theory and practices.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills and working knowledge of HRIS systems.
  • Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • PHR, SHRM CP, or SHRM SCP certification preferred.
  • Healthcare experience is a plus.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce and ADP payroll systems.
