About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at Chaminade University of Honolulu will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the Human Resources (HR) Department. This includes overseeing onboarding and off-boarding processes, administering contracts and benefits, and addressing inquiries related to the Human Resources Information System (HRIS). The HR Generalist will also play a key role in implementing employee engagement programs and ensuring compliance with company policies and practices. As the primary point of contact for the HR department, this position will interact with university staff and external vendors, representing the department in a professional manner. In addition to routine HR functions, the HR Generalist will review and document compliance with mandatory training and continuing education requirements, manage faculty contracts in collaboration with the Provost Office, and assist in the hiring process by interviewing and onboarding qualified candidates. The role also involves conducting background checks, implementing new hire orientation, and managing employee recognition programs. The HR Generalist will perform administrative tasks such as processing check requests, reconciling bills, and maintaining accurate HRIS data. The position requires maintaining knowledge of employment laws and best practices, developing relationships across departments, and supervising the Human Resources Representative. The HR Generalist will also participate in employee disciplinary meetings and special projects as assigned, ensuring that the HR department operates smoothly and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Run daily functions of the Human Resources Department including onboarding and off-boarding.
  • Manage contracts administration and benefits administration.
  • Answer HRIS questions and administer employee engagement programs.
  • Enforce company policies and practices as the face of the HR department.
  • Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training and work assessments.
  • Assist with hiring qualified job applicants, including interviewing and onboarding.
  • Conduct background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implement new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Perform routine tasks required to administer human resource programs including compensation and benefits.
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors.
  • Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings and investigations as needed.
  • Perform administrative duties such as creating check requests and reconciling bills.
  • Maintain the HRIS and ensure data accuracy; run reports as requested.
  • Develop and assist with organization of employee events.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Actively develop relationships within the University in all departments.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends and best practices in human resources and employment law.
  • Supervise the Human Resources Representative.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • At least one year of Human Resource Generalist experience
  • Management experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and maintain confidentiality
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite or related software
  • Proficiency with HRIS and talent management systems; experience with ADP Workforce Now a plus
