About the position

As a Human Resources Generalist at Simpson Strong-Tie, you will play a crucial role in supporting the organization by partnering with leaders at all levels in various Human Resources management activities. Your responsibilities will encompass onboarding, ensuring compliance with policies and local/state/federal laws, managing employee relations, administering Workday, overseeing performance management, and handling disciplinary actions and terminations. You will be expected to uphold the company's culture in all your actions and decisions, continuously seeking opportunities to enhance processes that yield better outcomes for employees, managers, and the organization as a whole. In this role, you will collaborate with leaders to attract and engage a diverse workforce, dedicating 40% of your time to this effort. This includes creating and maintaining clear job descriptions that accurately reflect team responsibilities and challenging leaders to identify the necessary skills and competencies for each role. You will also assist in developing level cutters to help employees understand the skill levels required for promotions and effectiveness in their positions. Mediation of disputes and addressing employee concerns will be part of your duties, along with maintaining a thorough understanding of legal requirements to mitigate risks and ensure compliance. You will conduct thorough investigations and proactively develop solutions to potential problems. Another 35% of your time will be spent elevating leadership capabilities and preparing the next generation of the workforce. You will work closely with Learning and Organizational Development (L&OD) to ensure the success of the Leadership Development program, driving participation and engagement to enhance leadership skills. Additionally, you will prepare presentations and deliver HR-related information to the supported organizations, as well as coach and mentor HR Coordinators and employees. The remaining 25% of your time will focus on implementing sustainable and scalable HR processes, tools, and technology to improve HR service delivery. This includes providing a range of HR services such as talent acquisition, employment processing, compensation, health and welfare benefits, training and development, EEO compliance, and employee relations. You will also be responsible for other assigned duties as needed, ensuring that HR practices align with the company's values and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders to attract and engage a diverse workforce.
  • Create and maintain concise, well-written job descriptions that accurately reflect team responsibilities.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of level cutters for employee promotions.
  • Mediate disputes and assist employees in addressing concerns with managers.
  • Conduct thorough and legally defensible investigations related to employee issues.
  • Ensure ongoing, effective feedback that supports consistent and fair performance management.
  • Drive employee engagement using various business strategies.
  • Support and enforce Simpson policies and practices, establishing new policies as needed.
  • Ensure the success of the Leadership Development program in partnership with L&OD.
  • Prepare and deliver HR-related presentations to supported organizations.
  • Coach and mentor HR Coordinators and employees.
  • Implement HR programs and services, including talent acquisition and employee relations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, HR, Communication, or Liberal Arts, or at least 5 years of equivalent work-related experience.
  • At least 5 years of progressive human resources experience focusing on training, full cycle recruiting, employee relations, policy interpretation, and performance management.
  • HR Certification such as HRCI/SHRM related Certification.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skills in planning and organizing activities to meet business objectives.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment regulations.
  • Ability to diagnose organizational issues and develop actionable solutions.
  • Strong customer focus with problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing needs.
  • Self-management skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Strong decision-making and judgment capabilities.
  • Teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
