About the position

The Human Resources Generalist Intermediate at Citizens Property Insurance Corporation serves as a vital consultant to both management and employees on a variety of Human Resources-related topics and issues. Reporting directly to the HR Business Partner (Lead or Principal), this role is essential in addressing employee relations matters and fostering a positive workplace environment. The HR Generalist will act as the first line of defense in resolving conflicts and will work to develop strong partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added services that align with the organization's business objectives. In this position, the HR Generalist will model ethical behavior and execute job responsibilities in accordance with Citizens' core values, ethics, and information protection policies. They will facilitate the effective use of Citizens' Open-Door Policy, providing consultation and advice to both employees and management in resolving employee relations issues. The role requires collaboration with all functional areas of HR to support the implementation of HR programs, services, and initiatives. The HR Generalist will also provide guidance on compliance programs related to employee leave requests, FMLA compliance, unemployment claims, and ADAAA compliance. The HR Generalist will maintain up-to-date knowledge of current HR trends, laws, and regulations, routinely interpreting HR policies and procedures for staff and management. They will educate others on legal regulations and corporate policy expectations as necessary. Additionally, the HR Generalist will work closely with HR Business Partners to identify people challenges and opportunities for HR solutions, ensuring that the HR function effectively supports the business unit leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Engage management and employees in the resolution of employee relations matters.
  • Develop partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees.
  • Facilitate the effective use of Citizens' Open-Door Policy.
  • Consult with and advise employees and management in resolving employee relations matters.
  • Mitigate risk and foster affirmative outcomes in employee relations.
  • Collaborate with all functional areas of HR to support the implementation of HR programs, services, and initiatives.
  • Provide guidance to leaders on HR compliance programs including employee leave requests, FMLA compliance, and ADAAA compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of current HR trends, laws, and regulations.
  • Interpret HR Policy and Procedures for staff and management.
  • Educate the business on legal regulations and corporate policy expectations as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and Bachelor's Degree OR 3 years relevant experience, OR a combination of college education and relevant experience equivalent to 3 years in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, Psychology, sociology/social work, or related field.
  • 4 or more years of Human Resources experience in areas such as recruiting, compensation, benefits, and organizational development, with at least 2 years in employee relations, HR compliance, and/or employment law.
  • Strong knowledge of HR disciplines and Employment Law.
  • Strong knowledge of Employee Relations and demonstrated consulting skills.
  • Advanced conflict management and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and build relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Nice-to-haves

  • HR Certification - PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP preferred.
  • HR consulting experience in a corporate setting.
  • Knowledge of the Insurance Industry preferred.
