About the position

The HR Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day administration of HR functions related to visa and immigration, expatriate payroll, and general affairs within the company. This role requires collaboration with other HR generalists and involves supporting companywide HR operations in a progressive and collaborative environment. The position is hybrid or on-site in Farmington Hill, MI, and requires bilingual proficiency in Japanese and English.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all VISA and Green Card administration, coordinating with immigration attorney.
  • Maintain employee benefit data and apply changes to payroll and benefits in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate between partner companies for expatriate agreements and terms.
  • Ensure smooth onboarding and settling-in for local hire visa candidates and expatriate new hires.
  • Analyze, prepare, and review expatriate payroll accurately, including knowledge of various deductions and tax requirements.
  • Monitor non-exempt employee hours, time off, and attendance issues.
  • Support onboarding and orientation of all employees, contractors, and temporary workers.
  • Maintain records and prepare documentation for governmental and legal compliance.
  • Maximize productivity through document management and assist in developing new policies and procedures.
  • Perform various administrative tasks for the HR department, including asset management and mail handling.
  • Manage HR/Admin related documents and data.
  • Provide first-level customer service support for employee inquiries regarding benefits and policy interpretation.
  • Support HR team and management as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent experience of 3-8 years in a related HR role.
  • Bilingual in Japanese and English, with strong English communication skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of HR experience in visas/immigration and green card administration.
  • Experience in payroll processing with or without payroll software.
  • Current knowledge of HR topics, including federal and local regulatory laws and practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Act with integrity and professionalism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT, and Teams).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information.
