About the position

The HR Generalist Intern plays a crucial role in supporting the human resources department by assisting in recruiting, employee relations, and various HR operations. This part-time position is designed for individuals pursuing a degree in Human Resources and offers the potential to transition into a full-time role. The intern will gain hands-on experience in all phases of the employee life cycle, from recruitment to policy administration, while ensuring compliance with legal and corporate standards.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates an understanding of human resources operations, policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Acts as an advisor and provides technical expertise and support in employee benefits administration and compensation planning.
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting HR functions.
  • Functions as an advisor to line management regarding employment laws and corporate HR policies.
  • Coordinates with management to assist in the recruiting process, including interview scheduling and applicant tracking.
  • Screens candidates, conducts interviews, and has authority to hire.
  • Organizes and conducts new employee orientation to create a positive first experience.
  • Maintains employee information and personnel files.
  • Inputs and maintains employee data in the HRIS system and prepares reports.
  • Prepares employee communication documents and assists in data collection.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding benefit programs and educates employees on self-service applications.
  • Works with corporate HR or third-party providers in managing employee life cycle processes.
  • Creates and conducts management/employee training on various topics.
  • Reviews existing HR policies and procedures and initiates changes for compliance.
  • Conducts and analyzes wage survey data and maintains position descriptions.
  • Maintains compliance with ISO and OH&S standards.
  • Complies with company safety and environmental policies.

Requirements

  • Completion of at least 3 years towards a bachelor's degree in Human Resources.
  • Understanding of recruitment processes, benefit and compensation administration, and employee relations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word and Excel).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with first line supervisory and hourly positions.
  • Demonstrates a positive and friendly attitude in working with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize workload.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HRIS systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and OH&S standards.
