About the position

Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest (LSS-SW) is seeking a Human Resource Generalist Sr to join our team. Founded in 1970, LSS-SW is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the most vulnerable members of our community. Our mission is to stabilize individuals during times of crisis, build self-reliant foundations, and preserve dignity and respect. We serve over 5,000 Arizonans each month across Metro Phoenix, Tucson, and southern Arizona, focusing on Refugee Services, Aging & Disability Services, Family Services, and Emergency Services. In this role, you will develop and facilitate HR and Leadership Development programs, trainings, and resources under the direction of the HR Director. You will assist in facilitating New Employee Orientation (NEO) and onboarding processes. Your responsibilities will include providing guidance on HR-related policies and procedures to employees and management, addressing complex employment-related inquiries, and working towards solutions for disciplinary matters, conflict resolution, performance management, and more. You will also maintain and edit employee-related policies, ensuring effective communication of changes to team members and management. Additionally, you will assist in managing health and welfare benefit programs, including workers' compensation claims and compliance during peak recruitment periods. Staying current with HR trends, best practices, and regulatory changes is essential, as is partnering with Contract and Program teams to ensure compliance with state and federal laws. This position is a front-line, hands-on role that requires fostering a respectful and inclusive work environment while supporting LSS-SW's values and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate HR and Leadership Development programs, trainings, and resources at the direction of the HR Director.
  • Assist in facilitating New Employee Orientation (NEO) and onboarding processes.
  • Provide Human Resources related policy and procedure guidance to employees and management.
  • Work towards solutions for complex and sensitive employment-related inquiries.
  • Maintain and edit employee-related policies and ensure effective communication of changes to team members.
  • Participate in special projects, such as audits and reporting, as well as process improvements.
  • Assist in managing health and welfare benefit programs, including workers' compensation claims and UI claims.
  • Stay current with HR related trends, best practices, and regulatory changes.
  • Partner with Contract and Program teams to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years progressive Human Resources experience.
  • Working knowledge of Arizona and Federal employment laws and regulations.
  • HRCI or SHRM Certification preferred.
  • Experience developing and delivering HR related training and development programs for adult learners.
  • Experience with training needs assessment and evaluation is helpful.
  • Clear a criminal background and motor vehicle screening; must have an acceptable driving record and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Valid Level 1 Fingerprint Card (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Good time management ability and ability to work independently.
  • Proficient with computers and related business electronics, systems, and software, including Microsoft Office products, HRIS, LMS, and TA systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish both written and verbal is desired.
