About the position

The HR Generalist at Newell Brands is a pivotal role responsible for providing comprehensive HR support and leading various HR initiatives specifically for the Global Supply Chain (GSC) - Distribution and Transportation sectors. This position requires collaboration with the Distribution and Transportation team and the leaders of the Distribution Center to assess the talent needs within the Distribution division and to develop effective strategies to meet those needs. The HR Generalist will oversee the daily operations of the HR department, which includes a wide range of functions such as hiring and interviewing staff, managing payroll, benefits, and leave, as well as enforcing company policies and practices. In this role, the HR Generalist will be tasked with reviewing, tracking, and documenting compliance with both mandatory and non-mandatory training programs, which may encompass safety training, anti-harassment training, and professional licensure. The position also involves recruiting and interviewing qualified candidates for open positions, conducting background checks, and facilitating new hire orientations and employee recognition programs. The HR Generalist will perform routine tasks necessary for administering HR programs, including managing compensation, benefits, disciplinary matters, and performance management. Additionally, the HR Generalist will handle employment-related inquiries from applicants and employees, participate in disciplinary meetings, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. Staying updated on trends and best practices in human resources and employment law is crucial for this role. The HR Generalist will also be expected to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the HR department and the organization as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements new hire and temp orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least two years of human resource management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.
