About the position

The HR Generalist 2 provides comprehensive human resources and payroll support to a diverse range of clients within the HR and Payroll Operations Center (HRPOC), including Housing & Hospitality, Facilities Management, Information Technology Services, and Events & Transportation. This role is responsible for coordinating complex onboarding workflows for high volumes of new hires, rehires, promotions, and transfers, while ensuring compliance with federal, state, UC, and UCLA personnel policies and procedures. Additionally, the HR Generalist manages a high volume of HR inquiries from client department employees, HR partners, managers, and supervisors, offering guidance on various personnel processes. The position also requires researching, organizing, and maintaining confidential information for employee relations and labor negotiations, organizing personnel and payroll records, and initiating payroll actions for personnel transactions. The HR Generalist 2 engages in developing and implementing administrative and operational processes to improve efficiency and productivity, and also serves as a backup for purchase order preparation. The role involves coordinating the onboarding process for all staff within the HRPOC client base, and developing departmental resources and training materials. The incumbent must ensure all work complies with established policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and directives from Campus Human Resources. The HR Generalist 2 must independently prioritize tasks in a dynamic work environment with frequent interruptions, maintain up-to-date procedures, handle sensitive documents with urgency, and ensure strict confidentiality. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive human resources and payroll support to HRPOC clients.

Requirements

  • Previous work experience in a HR environment.
  • Ability to interact using appropriate vocabulary and grammar with individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues in a high-volume public contact office.
  • Skill in working independently with minimal direction and in setting priorities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some overtime.
  • Skills in basic math to perform mathematical operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PCs in a Windows based environment.
  • Knowledgeable of business software such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to use employee based databases and applications to research information.
  • Skill in sound time management and prioritizing assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in a public setting.
  • Skill in writing concise, logical, grammatically correct reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to obtain certificate as fingerprint roller.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze policies and procedures for compliance.
