About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at Urban Alchemy plays a crucial role in aligning business objectives with employees and management within designated Operations units. This full-time position is responsible for formulating partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added services that reflect the organization's business objectives. The HR Generalist will collaborate with various departments, including recruiting, training, benefits, and payroll, to provide solutions to employee-related issues. They will also guide Operations Supervisors and Directors on performance management and assist in employee relations matters as needed. The HR Generalist is the primary owner of the onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and organizational policies. They will maintain a strong understanding of the organization's culture, plans, and competition, allowing them to effectively nurture a positive and inclusive work environment. This role requires flexibility in handling daily routines and unexpected challenges, emphasizing the importance of emotional intelligence and compassion in all interactions with staff and stakeholders. In addition to specific HR duties, the Generalist will conduct regular meetings with business units, analyze trends and metrics to develop solutions, and provide day-to-day performance management guidance. They will also maintain compliance with employment laws and regulations, support HRIS management, and champion the HR department's mission and values. Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular meetings with respective business units to align HR strategies with operational needs.
  • Consult with line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate.
  • Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management, including coaching, counseling, and career development.
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation to employees and management.
  • Maintain compliance posture for onboarding, offboarding, and wage and hour workflows.
  • Provide guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning.
  • Identify training needs and partner with training colleagues to ensure effective training delivery.
  • Collaborate with recruiting colleagues to ensure a healthy candidate pipeline and a seamless onboarding process.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, reviewing policies and practices as necessary.
  • Stay informed about trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and employment law.
  • Run reports from the HRIS system and analyze them for trends.
  • Support the HRIS Manager in maintaining the health of the HRIS system.
  • Act as a champion of the HR department's mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of HR experience, including HR business partnering experience, preferably in a high-growth startup organization.
  • Broad knowledge of HR principles and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of HR workflows and systems.
  • Exceptional people skills and excellent judgment, especially in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands and competing priorities effectively.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong follow-through skills, self-directed, and highly motivated with a sense of urgency.
  • Strong knowledge of California and federal labor laws (FMLA, wage and hour, EEO, ADA, etc.).
  • Essential knowledge of benefits plans and payroll processes.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in HRIS systems and Google Suite.
  • Resourceful with strong analytical skills and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Team player with an interest in building community and authentic relationships.
  • Comfortable in a startup environment with high ambiguity.
  • Attention to detail and meticulousness.
