About the position

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing various HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with management in supporting all divisions of the company. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, and employment law compliance. The HR Generalist will support various North TX locations and one location in Wisconsin, requiring regular travel to these sites. In this role, the HR Generalist will work closely with local and regional management to ensure that daily tasks are met in alignment with the organization's operating strategy. Key responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, and facilitating the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions, collaborating with departmental managers to understand the skills and competencies required for these openings. The HR Generalist will also conduct or acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications, implement new hire orientation and employee recognition programs, and perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs. Additionally, the HR Generalist will handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff. They will maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices, while also maintaining knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law. The role requires maintaining confidential personnel files and performing the E-Verify process on new hires and rehires to ensure employment eligibility. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for maintaining the Applicant Tracking system and preparing offers of employment as needed. Overall, this position is crucial in supporting the HR functions of the organization and ensuring a positive employee experience across all locations.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with local and regional management to ensure daily tasks are met which supports the organization's operating strategy.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Maintains confidential personnel files with documentation such as onboarding paperwork, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, terminations, and other miscellaneous documentation.
  • Performs E-Verify process on new hires and rehires to ensure employment eligibility; investigates and ensures proper notifications are delivered in a timely manner for all discrepancies with E-Verify results.
  • Responsible for maintaining Applicant Tracking system; will also be responsible for posting positions on the company website.
  • Prepares offers of employment (offer letters) with supervision, as needed.
  • Provides advice and service to management on daily employee relations and performance management issues.
  • Processes unemployment claims and assists in appeals when needed.
  • Completes any HR related projects as requested.
  • Travels regionally to locations in assigned territory on a weekly basis and additional travel to career fairs and corporate office in Houston for department meetings.

Requirements

  • High school education required; Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of HR experience.
  • Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Competent computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be trustworthy as the position requires access to confidential employee information.
