About the position

The HR Generalist position at the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette is a full-time role that plays a crucial part in supporting the organization's mission to strengthen the foundations of communities through various programs. This position is under the direction of the Vice President of Human Resources and is responsible for providing professional human resources support across the association. The HR Generalist will engage in analytical and administrative tasks related to daily HR activities, ensuring that pertinent information is disseminated effectively. This role also serves as a subject matter expert for HR-related inquiries, promoting an inclusive work environment that aligns with the YMCA's values of love, respect, honesty, responsibility, and service. In collaboration with the Training & Development Leader, the HR Generalist will assist in meeting training and compliance requirements for staff. The HR Generalist will support hiring managers throughout the recruitment process, assist with onboarding new hires, administer employee benefits, and ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures. This role requires a commitment to the YMCA's mission and values, as well as a proactive approach to managing HR functions effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Support hiring managers in the recruitment process, assisting supervisors with job requisitions, applications, background checks, and the overall hiring process.
  • Support the new hire onboarding process, monitoring completion of documentation and communicating with supervisors and staff to ensure timely completion of paperwork.
  • Administer benefits for the association, including annual open enrollment, meeting with new staff to review benefits, answering questions, and managing enrollment/termination of benefits with insurance carriers and the HRIS.
  • Review, research, and process all HR actions for the association, including promotions, pay changes, terminations, hires, and other actions submitted through the HRIS system.
  • Ensure all HR-related actions involving payroll changes are communicated to the Payroll department and monitored each pay period for accuracy.
  • Research and respond to employment verifications in a timely manner.
  • Input training and certification information into the HRIS system by established deadlines.
  • Conduct background checks for applicants, employees, and volunteers.
  • Maintain personnel files and records.
  • Support Community Campaign and fundraising efforts.
  • Commit to the YMCA mission, vision, and values.
  • Attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire.
  • Learn all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch.
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association.
  • Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the organization.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-3 years relevant work experience in HR.
  • Accredited HR Certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
