About the position

The HR Generalist is responsible for supervising the day-to-day administration of human resources functions, ensuring compliance with GSF, federal, and state labor policies and procedures. This role involves providing essential information and counseling to employees, which includes conducting new employee orientations, benefits counseling, and ensuring adherence to company policies regarding drug/alcohol testing and sexual harassment. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for posting federal and state rules and regulations, ensuring compliance with laws such as FLSA, FMLA, EEO, ADDA, Title VII, OSHA, DOT, and USDA. In union facilities, the HR Generalist assists in handling grievances and resolving issues in non-union facilities. In addition to employee counseling, the HR Generalist directs the maintenance of human resources materials, ensuring that personnel files, new hire forms, I-9's, W-4's, manuals, and other documents are current, confidential, complete, and compliant with company and government regulations. This position also involves disseminating human resources policies, procedures, and programs to ensure that all employees are well-informed and compliant with regulations. The HR Generalist provides guidance to managers and supervisors regarding the implementation of human resources policies and procedures, ensuring fair practices. Recruitment and selection of hourly and salaried employees is another critical responsibility, which includes preparing and placing job advertisements, screening applications, conducting interviews, and performing background checks. The HR Generalist is also an active participant in the facility's management team, handling higher-level human resources issues in the absence of the Human Resources Manager. This role requires a focus on productivity, quality standards, teamwork, communication, and employee development to meet GSF's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Provides information and counseling to employees, including new employee orientation, benefits counseling, drug/alcohol testing, sexual harassment policies, company policies, payroll, safety, etc.
  • Posts federal and state rules and regulations and ensures compliance (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, EEO, ADDA, Title VII, OSHA, DOT, USDA, etc.).
  • Assists in handling grievances and issue resolutions in union facilities and non-union facilities.
  • Directs the maintenance of human resources materials, including personnel files, new hire forms, I-9's, W-4's, manuals, and other documents to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Disseminates human resources policies, procedures, and programs to ensure that all employees are well informed and compliant.
  • Provides guidance to managers and supervisors regarding implementation of human resources policies and procedures.
  • Recruits and selects hourly and salaried employees by preparing and placing classified job advertisements, screening applications, testing and interviewing applicants, and conducting background checks.
  • Performs other related and assigned duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 3 to 6 years of work experience in general human resources.
  • PHR and/or SPHR certification from SHRM or a college may be considered in lieu of degree.
