About the position

The HR Generalist will administer human resources activities for the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at Johns Hopkins University, ensuring efficient functioning of HR and payroll functions for over 500 faculty, staff, and students. This role serves as the primary point of contact for HR-related inquiries and supports various HR functions including recruitment, employee relations, and compliance with university policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide HR support and consulting services to faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Coordinate the employment process and ensure compliance with university policies.
  • Advise on salary equity and make recommendations for starting and promotional salaries.
  • Serve as a liaison to Central HR for personnel requisitions and visa processes.
  • Conduct interviews, reference checks, and develop job descriptions for new positions.
  • Monitor time and attendance forms for staff and participate in committees.
  • Counsel faculty and staff on HR policies and procedures, including FMLA and timekeeping.
  • Assist in developing divisional policies and ensure compliance with JHU and DOM policies.
  • Advise management on terminations and disciplinary actions, and conduct exit interviews.
  • Review payroll documentation for compliance and process payroll transactions accurately.
  • Assist with financial reporting related to faculty salaries and resolve salary overpayments.
  • Train new divisional staff on payroll processing and HR policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Three years of progressive experience in a professional human resources capacity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Experience in an academic or medical institution preferred.
