About the position

The primary function of a Human Resources Generalist (HRG) at Gypsum Management & Supply, Inc. (GMS) is to perform a wide range of HR-related duties that are essential for the effective management of human resources within the organization. This role encompasses various responsibilities including employee relations, performance management, recruitment, pre-employment screenings, onboarding and offboarding processes, policy implementation, and ensuring compliance with employment laws. The HR Generalist will report directly to the Senior HR Generalist and will also take direction from the Regional HR Business Partner(s) who oversee designated geographic regions. In the realm of employee relations and performance management, the HR Generalist will advise and coach both employees and managers in response to workplace concerns, including morale issues, interpersonal conflicts, and complaints related to inappropriate workplace behavior. The HRG will actively participate in performance and disciplinary meetings, including terminations, and will invest time in building relationships with managers to foster a service-oriented approach. Additionally, the HR Generalist will be responsible for identifying solutions to recurring workplace issues by analyzing data and personal observations, and will develop strong networks with professional organizations and academic institutions. The recruitment responsibilities include posting and maintaining job requisitions, assisting with job description creation, and acting as a liaison between talent acquisition partners and hiring managers. The HR Generalist will provide recruiting support by reviewing resumes, interviewing candidates, and coordinating interviews, while also utilizing market data to advise hiring managers on competitive offers. In terms of pre-employment, onboarding, offboarding, and payroll, the HR Generalist will initiate necessary screening activities, support the electronic onboarding process, manage the I-9 verification process, and prepare various payroll reports. The HRG will also review and analyze current payroll and benefits procedures to recommend improvements. The HR Generalist will maintain a comprehensive understanding of applicable federal and state wage and hour laws, act as a liaison for leave administration, and support policy implementation and adherence. This role requires a proactive approach to recommending new policies and procedures to enhance HR operations. Overall, the HR Generalist plays a crucial role in supporting the HR department and ensuring that GMS maintains a high level of employee satisfaction and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to improve HR operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in HR or related field; PHR or SPHR preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of related work experience in HR.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources best practices and administration.
  • Knowledge of applicable leave and accommodation laws preferred.
