About the position

The Senior HR Generalist plays a crucial role in providing counsel and assistance to employees and management at all levels regarding Employee Relations and Management issues. This position is guided by the company’s corrective action policy, benefit policy, and labor law legislation. The Senior HR Generalist is expected to liaise with management, HR partners, and HR legal teams to effectively address employee relations issues and potential conflicts related to employment practices. As a key contributor within the HR organization, the Senior HR Generalist will work towards streamlining and standardizing HR policies and practices, enhancing the effectiveness of the HR organization in managing human capital. In this role, the Senior HR Generalist will coach and counsel management on handling complex employee relations issues, providing assistance and guidance on performance management and corrective actions in alignment with the company’s corrective action policy. The position also involves advising and counseling employees on a wide range of employee relations inquiries, HR policies, and processes. Conducting thorough investigations into employee and management complaints, including ethics complaints, is a critical responsibility, along with developing and providing recommendations for resolution. The Senior HR Generalist will provide guidance on interpreting policies and programs, employee counseling, equal employment opportunity, disability services, and labor relations. Additionally, the role includes managing involuntary terminations and reorganizations, ensuring accountability to the company’s ERISA plan. The Senior HR Generalist will also perform various employee relations administrative activities, focusing on delivering an exceptional experience for nearly 20,000 eBay employees.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with all levels of management, HR Partners, and HR Legal to address employee relations issues and conflicts.
  • Coach and counsel management on handling complex employee relations issues and performance management.
  • Advise and counsel employees on HR policies and processes.
  • Conduct investigations into employee and management complaints, including ethics complaints.
  • Develop and provide recommendations for resolution of complaints.
  • Provide guidance on interpreting policies, employee counseling, and labor relations.
  • Handle involuntary terminations and reorganizations, ensuring compliance with ERISA plan.
  • Perform employee relations administrative activities to enhance employee experience.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive understanding of Federal, State, and local employment laws (ADA, FMLA, FLSA, OWBPA, etc.).
  • Strong customer service orientation with specialized knowledge of Employee Relations processes and policies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, inquiry management, investigatory, and issue resolution skills.
  • Proactive and solution-focused with the ability to handle difficult interactions.
  • Ability to use technology and multi-task effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with effective listening and investigatory skills.
  • Strong decision-making skills balancing judgment and analytical orientation.
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Attention to detail and high work standards for accurate documentation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience or understanding of enabling technologies in a customer service environment.
  • HR certification (e.g., SPHR) is a plus but not required.
